Event cancellation

In the event of force majeure arising, including but not limited to inclement weather, changes in economic conditions, war, strike, changes in laws, regulations, or the like made by any competent authority, pandemic or any other external forces or act of God that are out of the control of the race organisers, the organisers may decide, in their sole and absolute discretion, to change the course to a safer alternative course, where possible, or cancel the event entirely. Such a decision will always be made in the interest of participant safety. If the event course is changed as aforesaid, or the event is cancelled, no refunds will be possible.

Resell your entry: what is it?

Howler’s official resale function offers a safe and secure way to sell your Otter entry if your event has officially sold out. It also gives runners still looking for an entry a trusted way to buy one.

We recommend using this feature to ensure a protected transaction for both sellers and buyers. The resale option will be available until 29 August 2027, unless closed earlier at our discretion or based on operational needs.

  • Resale is not the same as a substitution. A substitution allows you to pass your entry to someone you know personally, and remains available for all entry types on request through the race office at raceoffice@otter.run.
  • Resale puts your entry into a general pool where it can be bought by anyone browsing the event on Howler. You won’t know who purchased it, you’ll simply receive payment if it sells.
  • Resale is only available once an event has sold out, either the Otter Race or the Otter Challenge.
  • Entries can only be sold at face value (the original price you paid). Reselling above the original price is not possible.
  • A 5% admin fee is deducted from the resale amount, so you’ll receive 95% of your ticket price once your entry sells.
  • Payment for a sold entry is processed securely within 14 days after the sale.


NB: Entries not eligible for resale include promo (free) entries, entries that have been changed from the Otter Race to the Otter Challenge or vice versa, and any event that has not yet sold out.

How to list your entry for resale

  1. Log in to your Howler account and go to Tickets.
  2. Find the entry you want to sell and click the three dots on the right.
  3. Select Sell Ticket. Some information will come up, select Continue.
  4. Entries can only be sold for the original full price.
  5. Enter your banking details and double-check them carefully. Incorrect info means you’ll need to remove and relist your entry.
  6. Once your entry is listed for resale, you can remove it at any time, as long as it hasn’t been purchased (see below for this process).
If your entry sells, you’ll get an email confirmation and it will disappear from your Howler account.

Your entry stays listed until it’s sold, or until resale is closed by the organiser.

How to remove your entry from resale

  1. Go to Tickets in your Howler account.
  2. Click the three dots on the entry you listed for resale.
  3. Select Remove from Resale.

If someone has the entry in their cart, you’ll need to wait for them to abandon the purchase or for their order session to expire.

Once removed from resale, the entry will reappear in your Howler account.

How to buy a resale entry

If someone lists their entry for resale, it will automatically appear on the event page on Howler.

  1. Go to the event landing page on Howler [insert 2027 Otter Howler link].
  2. Look for the Buy Resale Ticket button. It appears separately from the standard Enter Now option.
  3. If resale entries are available, they will appear as options under Available resale tickets.
  4. Add the resale entry of your choice to your cart and proceed to checkout as usual.
  5. Once your payment is complete, the entry will be added to your Howler account and emailed to you.

Indemnity and Waiver

OTTER TRAIL RUN – RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT

Read through carefully. You are giving away certain rights, and taking on certain liabilities, as explained below. Read, understand and accepted the following representations, stipulations and waiver.

I understand that The Otter (Pty) event, its organizers (which includes The Otter TERREX Trail Event Sponsors; South African National Parks, Cape Pine and all governmental entities and other property owners or lessees, service providers, and any of them in combinations, and their officers, directors, agents, employees and contractors) will NOT BE LIABLE, neither financially nor legally, for any injury, illness (including contracting COVID-19), loss/damage to property (including 3rd party claim) or occurrence, arising from my participation (including, but not limited to, participation in the event, volunteering, contract work and sub-contracting work) and that accordingly, my participation in such activities are at my OWN RISK.

I understand that by its very nature, trail running is a potentially hazardous pastime requiring a higher-than-average degree of physical fitness, technical running skill and experience, and hereby declare that I consider myself prepared for participation n this event. I assume full responsibility for any medical problems which may affect my safety while participating in this event. I also assume full responsibility for any medical expenses I may incur as a result of my participation in this event.

I further understand that the above-mentioned events are by trail running standards a technically difficult trail run which involves the traversing of a wilderness trail over sharp, jagged and slippery rocks, etc., with sheer cliffs in the immediate proximity of the trail and that a fall on any part of the course could result in serious injury or even death, and I specifically indemnify The Otter (Pty) Ltd event organizers, owners and partners.

Accordingly, I hereby waive for myself, my personal representatives, heirs and next of kin, all claims which I might have against the event organizers for injury, accident, illness, property damage, death or other occurrence arising in any manner whatsoever out of my participation in the activities organized by The Otter (Pty) Ltd. I expressly assume all risks of my participation, including the risk that I might be injured as a result of negligence or gross negligence of the event organizers.

I further undertake to abide by the rules of the event and observe the instructions of the event officials AT ALL TIMES during the event. I also understand that my access to the areas, trails and roads in the National Parks, private nature reserves, private farmlands and private and public plantations has been negotiated on my behalf exclusively for the period of my participation in this event and that I will not return to these areas without the necessary permissions and/or permits and that doing so could result in prosecution for trespassing and banning from future participation in this event.

I further consent to and understand that all images, social media content and TV footage taken by the event’s contracted photographers and film Production Companies during the entire period of the event are the property of The Otter (Pty) Ltd and can be used in any media (print, electronic, etc.).
