The Event

The Event

East to West

Each year The Otter African Trail Run takes place in an alternating direction. It’s the same route but different climbs to conquer and all new spectacular views to look forward to. In 2018 the event will be run from West to East, starting at Natures Valley and finishing at Storms River Mouth Rest Camp.

Two Departures

For safety, enjoyment for all runners and minimizing environmental impact only 250 runners are allowed on the course at any time. We know that some tackle The Otter ATR just to finish in one day while others are chasing the clock.
This is why we launched The Challenge with an 11 hour cut-off, while The Run, maintains a fearsome 8 hour cut-off.

Massages

There are many variables to running and managing the Otter Run & Challenge but one thing I can guarantee is that your legs will be dying for a massage after finishing the race. The Southern Cape has some of the most highly rated sports masseurs, Jo-Anne van Vuuren and her colleagues from Aromaflex. Make sure you book your massage in advance (jo.lexus@vodamail.co.za or 082-8209960)

We will once again offering spectators the opportunity to observe the dramatic Bloukrans River Crossing and still be back in time witness the first finishers cross the line and the possibility of history being made. Spectators will be collected from the Central Race Hub on the morning of the event and transported to the top of the E6 Emergency Exit above the infamous Bloukrans River mouth.
