R 100 000 for SUB 4

It is official – organiser of the OTTER AFRICAN TRAIL RUN presented by SALOMON announced today that there will be another R 100 000 INCENTIVE for a SUB 4 hours RETTO!
Riaan van Niekerk from Conveyor Technologies has come on board as a partner of this year’s event and will secure the prize purse of R 100 000 should any athlete manage to break the SUB 4 hour barrier for male participants and a SUB 4.30 for female athletes.
Last year Marc Lauenstein ran the CLASSIC in 3 hours 59 minutes and 29 seconds and by cutting a sheer 31 seconds under a 4 hour race time he won himself R 100 000 in prize money.
With his very humble and generous manner, Swiss athlete Marc Lauenstein gave half of his prize purse back to local charities – one of them being the Nature’s Valley Trust and the other one being the United Through Sport Organisation.

Marc Lauenstein will be back at the start line of RETTO 2016 can he do it again? Many athletes say the RETTO is harder than the CLASSIC with most of the climbs and the more technical sections being on the Eastern side of the park. On the other hand – this year Marc knows exactly what he is in for which gave him an opportunity to train very specifically.

It will be a nail biting race finish and we urge anybody with some interest for trail running to join us in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park – Stormsriver Mouth on the morning of the Saturday, 15th October.
